Illinois woman killed in a collision with a tractor

On Behalf of | Jun 19, 2013 | Firm News, Workplace Discrimination

A 47 year-old Illinois woman has died after the pickup truck she was riding in rear-ended a tractor. According to Illinois State Police, the 48 year-old male driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. He received tickets for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and DUI. The driver was not seriously injured in the accident.

According to reports, both vehicles were traveling on Illinois State Route 121 near Neoga when the tractor driver slowed down to make a turn. The pickup truck driver didn’t slow down and hit the tractor from behind. The truck driver was transported to the hospital and, according to hospital sources, was treated for minor injuries and was later released. His female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing a seat belt. There are no reports of serious injuries to the tractor driver.

A negligent driver who consumed alcohol before getting into his truck to drive with another person caused this accident. While his passenger lost her life because of his actions, the accident may affect her family as well. The sudden death of a family member can result in many unexpected expenses such as medical bills and funeral costs in addition to the loss of the deceased person’s income. The victim’s family in this fatal car accident may be able to recover some of their expenses by filing a wrongful death lawsuit.

If they receive a settlement, the money can help them pay some of the costs associated with her death. An attorney experienced in helping families affected by fatal drunk driving accidents may help them navigate the complicated legal process involved in suing a negligent driver.
