Former CEO accused of sexual harassment and other infractions

On Behalf of | Aug 18, 2016 | Firm News, Sexual Harassment

One of the main reasons for the laws governing employment practices is to protect workers from superiors who abuse their power in the workplace. It is uncomfortable to contemplate, but these abuses still persist in many companies in California and elsewhere throughout the country. Recently, a lawsuit was filed against a former CEO and major political supporter, alleging sexual harassment and other illegal employment practices.

According to court documents, a woman alleges that William Parfet, a formidable business leader and chairman of his state’s political action committee (PAC), engaged in gender discrimination, sexual harassment and retaliation. She also states that she was wrongfully terminated from her position as a consultant at MPI Research due to these issues. These allegations were made after the woman was fired in 2014 during a child support dispute with Parfet.

Though both married to other partners, the woman fathered two of Parfet’s children in 2009 and 2012 respectively. Under threat of adverse consequences including termination, the woman alleges that Parfet demanded sexual relations from the woman when they traveled for business. Though he initially agreed to provide financial support for their children, Parfet ultimately refused to provide financial or emotional support, and he would not publicly acknowledge his children.

Those who are facing sexual harassment, employment disputes or unlawful terminations in California may benefit from consulting an attorney. Attorneys who are experienced in litigating employment law are typically well versed in the state’s latest employment and labor laws. This type of attorney will be in the best position to give counsel on the various legal options available if an injured party wishes to pursue a civil lawsuit.
